At the start of 2026, I’d had four books traditionally published with Little Island (2020-22), but my first three books had been published independently. I decided to dive into that well again, but to do it so professionally you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. So this year, I published Sparks – a collaboration of art & storytelling, featuring the magnificent fine art of Margaret Woods Moore in May. Then a new indie press, Silver Locust published Glimpses Beneath, a chapbook of my flash fictions in June as part of their debut collection and in September, with as much noise as I could muster, I published Mischievous Magical Maia Malone.
In case anyone is thinking of self-publishing, I wrote a series of articles about the process which I have gathered here.
Indie Publishing: The Route to Insanity, part 1
Indie Publishing: Into the Depths: Plotting – the Nuts and Bolts
Indie Publishing: Into the Depths: Plotting Outwards – the bigger picture
And if you’d like to know more about the book that all this work resulted in, here’s the article I wrote about Mischievous Magical Maia Malone
